Cora Hutchcraft, 90, Fairfield

Cora Wilmath (Downen) Hutchcraft, 90, of Wayne City, IL passed away on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at Brookstone Estates in Fairfield, IL.

Cora was born to Alva & Edna (Legg) Downen on April 6, 1933.  On November 27, 1952 she married William “Wayne” Hutchcraft who preceded her in death.

Cora had worked at Airtex in Fairfield, IL for 27 years before retiring.  She was of the protestant faith.  She loved traveling, gardening, collecting eagles, and feeding birds & hummingbirds.  She adored her children and grandchildren.

Cora is survived by 5 children: daughter Lois Rutger of Fairfield, IL; son Gary (Diane) Hutchcraft of Pinckneyville, IL; son Gerald (Linda) Hutchcraft of Wayne City, IL; daughter Debbie Lackey of Fairfield, IL; and daughter Charlotte (Stan) Walker of Fairfield, IL; 13 grandchildren: Stephanie (Jason) Greenwalt of Johnsonville, IL; Melissa Hutchcraft of Fairfield, IL; Jenny (Delbert) Clugston of Mt. Vernon, IL; Mike Rutger of Johnsonville, IL; Gideon (Sarah) Hutchcraft of Pinckneyville, IL; Jana (Aaron) Johnson of Pinckneyville, IL; Terra Wilton of Dahlgren, IL; Jeremy (Maribeth) Hutchcraft of Fairfield, IL; Cory Hutchcraft of St. Louis, MO; Nathaniel (Kelly) Lackey of Columbia, IL; Wilson Lackey of St. Louis, MO: Amand (Josh) King of Paducah, KY; Shawna (Justin) Weber of Fairfield, IL; and Sandra (Dakota) Buroker of Evansville, IN; 31 great-grandchildren, a sister Dorothy Hedden of Wayne City, IL; and several nieces & nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Alva & Edna Downen, husband Wayne Hutchcraft, a son Donnie Hutchcraft, a grandson Brian Martin, 3 brothers: Russell Downen, Jesse Downen, and Art Legg; and 4 sisters: Ida Butler, Lola McCormick, Clarice Rawls, and Mable Austin.

Graveside services for Cora Wilmath (Downen) Hutchcraft will be held at Garrison Cemetery in Aden, IL at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 30, 2023 with Rev. Richard McCormick officiating.  A private family ceremony will be held at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City prior to the graveside service.
