Kenneth Dan Grote, 84, of Sims, IL passed away on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, IN. Kenneth was born May 31, 1939 in Centralia, IL to Marvin & Pauline Grote. On August 17, 1958 he married Elaine (Wells) Grote who preceded him in death on December 26, 2006.
Kenneth worked at Airtex in Fairfield, IL for 42 years before retiring from his position as a foreman. He was also a longtime a farmer. He loved camping and traveling. He traveled to the Strawberry Festival in Kissimmee, Florida many times, and would spend the winters camping in Gulf Shores, Alabama. He especially enjoyed the experience of traveling to Alaska. He loved hunting, boating, and going to flea markets. He also loved working on antique tractors. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events & school events, and he enjoyed spending time with his friends and family.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in Wayne City, IL and had also recently attended at the Keenes Christian Church in Keenes, IL.
Kenneth is survived by a son Terry (Gayla) Grote of Fairfield, IL; 2 grandchildren: Mercedes Grote of Fairfield and Rick (Marsha) Fenton of McLeansboro, IL; 2 great-grandchildren: Keygan Fenton and Kallyn Fenton, and significant other Lelah Garrison of Sims, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin & Pauline Grote, his wife Elaine Grote, and a daughter Cheryl Fenton.
Funeral services for Kenneth Dan Grote will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City, IL with Pastor Lawrence Ward officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City. Interment will follow the funeral service at Thomason Cemetery in Wayne City, IL.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wayne City Volunteer Ambulance Service, and will be accepted at Young Funeral Home in Wayne City.
